As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and luck. The aim is to move your pieces safely around the board to your home board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at specific instances. Here are the two final Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the aim of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any movement of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. Once you’ve successfully built the prime to stop the activity of your competitor, the opponent does not even get a chance to roll the dice, and you move your checkers and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The aims of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions in hope to improve your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy utilizes seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is generally utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this technique, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This strategy is more complex than others to use in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
