As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and pure luck. The aim is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opponent shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at specific times. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point two and point 11 in your board. Once you’ve successfully built the prime to block the movement of the competitor, your competitor doesn’t even get to toss the dice, that means you move your checkers and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game technique are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions in hope to better your odds of winning, however the Back Game technique uses alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game strategy is generally employed when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this tactic, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
