As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and good luck. The goal is to move your pieces carefully around the board to your home board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the aim of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move their pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely stop any activity of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or result a battered position if he/she at all attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your board. After you have successfully built the prime to stop the activity of your competitor, the competitor does not even get a chance to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions in hope to better your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game strategy relies on different tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is generally used when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are moved is partially the result of the dice toss.
