As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The aim is to move your chips safely around the board to your home board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers heading in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the last two Backgammon plans to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move their checkers, the Priming Game plan is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if he ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully built the prime to stop the activity of your competitor, your opponent does not even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you shift your chips and roll the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The aims of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to harm your opponent’s positions with hope to better your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game plan relies on seperate tactics to do that. The Back Game strategy is commonly employed when you’re far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are moved is partly the result of the dice roll.
