In exceptionally simple terms, there are three fundamental techniques used. You need to be able to hop between strategies almost instantly as the course of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This is composed of assembling a 6-thick wall of checkers, or at a minimum as thick as you can achieve, to lock in your competitor’s pieces that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most adequate procedure at the start of the match. You can assemble the wall anywhere within your 11-point and your two-point and then move it into your home board as the game continues.

The Blitz

This is comprised of closing your home board as quickly as possible while keeping your challenger on the bar. For example, if your opponent tosses an early two and moves one checker from your 1-point to your 3-point and you then roll a five-five, you are able to play six/one 6/1 8/3 8/3. Your opposer is now in big-time trouble because they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have locked half your home board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have 2 or higher anchors in your competitor’s home board. (An anchor spot is a position occupied by at least 2 of your pieces.) It must be used when you are significantly behind as it much improves your circumstances. The best places for anchor spots are close to your opponent’s smaller points and also on adjacent points or with a single point in between. Timing is critical for an effectual backgame: besides, there is no reason having two nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own home board if you are then required to dismantle this right away, while your competitor is shifting their checkers home, taking into account that you don’t have any other spare checkers to shift! In this situation, it is better to have checkers on the bar so that you can preserve your position up till your challenger gives you an opportunity to hit, so it will be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your opposer to get them in this situation!
