The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the game board and bear them from the board quicker than your challenger who works harder to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both tactics and good luck. How far you can move your pieces is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and the way you move your chips are decided on by your overall playing plans. Players use differing strategies in the different stages of a match depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Technique

The aim of the Running Game tactic is to lure all your checkers into your home board and bear them off as fast as you can. This technique focuses on the speed of shifting your pieces with little or no efforts to hit or block your opponent’s checkers. The ideal scenario to use this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own pieces quicker than your opposition does: when 1) you have less chips on the board; 2) all your checkers have past your competitor’s chips; or 3) your opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Plan

The primary aim of the blocking strategy, by its title, is to block your opponent’s chips, temporarily, not fretting about shifting your chips quickly. As soon as you’ve established the blockage for the opponent’s movement with a couple of pieces, you can shift your other pieces swiftly from the board. The player will need to also have a good strategy when to back off and move the chips that you employed for the blockade. The game gets interesting when the competitor utilizes the same blocking strategy.
