As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to shift your checkers safely around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opponent moves their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift their checkers, the Priming Game plan is to completely stop any activity of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get hit, or result a damaged position if she at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your board. After you have successfully assembled the prime to stop the activity of the competitor, the competitor doesn’t even get to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The objectives of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game technique are very similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to better your chances of winning, however the Back Game tactic utilizes seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is generally employed when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
