As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and good luck. The goal is to shift your pieces safely around the game board to your home board while at the same time your opponent moves their pieces toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With opposing player pieces shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to shift his checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to completely stop any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if he/she at all attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point eleven in your game board. As soon as you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of your opponent, your competitor doesn’t even get to toss the dice, and you move your chips and roll the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The goals of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game technique are very similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions with hope to boost your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game tactic utilizes seperate techniques to do that. The Back Game technique is often utilized when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are relocated is partly the outcome of the dice toss.
