As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The goal is to move your chips safely around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at particular times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon plans to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move her checkers, the Priming Game plan is to completely barricade any movement of the opposing player by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your board. As soon as you have successfully built the prime to block the activity of the opponent, your competitor doesn’t even get to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to better your odds of winning, however the Back Game plan uses different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is frequently employed when you are far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the pieces are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
