As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The aim is to move your checkers carefully around the game board to your home board while at the same time your opposing player moves their checkers toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon plans to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the aim of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move their checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a damaged position if she at all attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of the opponent, your competitor doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, and you move your chips and roll the dice yet again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions in hope to better your odds of winning, however the Back Game plan relies on alternate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is generally used when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
