As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and luck. The aim is to shift your checkers safely around the board to your inner board and at the same time your opposing player moves their chips toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular strategies at particular times. Here are the two final Backgammon strategies to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift their chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any movement of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he/she at all tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be built anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of your opponent, your competitor doesn’t even get to roll the dice, and you shift your pieces and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The aims of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy uses seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is generally used when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this plan, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This plan is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
